Climate Change is one of the modern world’s biggest challenges. From extreme weather to resource scarcity, habitat loss to respiratory illness- the impacts on both people and planet are devastating. 2024 was the hottest year ever recorded, and was on average approximately 1.55 degrees C above pre-industrial levels.
In 2015, world leaders agreed to The Paris Agreement, and limiting global warming to less than 2 degrees C and ideally below 1.5, which we’ve now exceeded.
Because of The Paris Agreement, achieving a Net Zero emissions economy is set down in UK Law.
If we don’t meet this 2 degrees target, climate change will indefinitely result in mass extinction.
-Meet and Prepare for Regulation
-Improve Efficiency & Reduce Costs
-Attract Conscious-Consumers
-Secure Ethical Investors
-Improve Employee Wellbeing & Productivity
-Streamline Sustainable Growth
Businesses play a pivotal role in achieving this below 2 degrees goal, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the UK are estimated to be responsible for 43-53% of non-household emissions within the country.
Furthermore, consumers and investors alike are increasingly driven by sustainability. The PwC Voice of The Consumer Survey 2024 found that:
The UK Government is also currently drafting its own sustainability regulation for businesses, the “UK Sustainability Reporting Standards” which will make it mandatory for businesses to report their climate impacts.
Our whole-picture, or systemic, approach to sustainability draws on the UN Sustainable Development goals and socio-ecological theory. We are all part of one intertwined interdependent ecosystem, and the effects we have on the planet affect ustoo. From extreme weather disasters causing poverty, poor health and food insecurity, to global inequality driving unequal consumption, driving climate change- it's all connected which is why we combine environmental, social and economic sustainability for a whole-picture approach.
